Canada understands the importance of keeping families together. The Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP) allows eligible spouses or common-law partners of temporary residents to work in Canada without needing a job offer.

At Allite Immigration, we help families stay united while creating opportunities to work, grow, and settle in Canada.

A Spousal Open Work Permit is an open work permit, meaning the holder can work for any employer, in any occupation, anywhere in Canada (with limited exceptions).

This permit is commonly issued to spouses or partners of:

  • International students
  • Skilled foreign workers
  • Post-Graduation Work Permit holders

You may be eligible for a Spousal Open Work Permit if:

  • Your spouse or partner holds a valid study permit or work permit
  • The principal applicant is enrolled in a recognized Canadian institution or working in an eligible occupation
  • You can provide proof of a genuine relationship
  • You meet basic admissibility requirements

Each application is assessed individually, making accurate documentation essential.

We begin by reviewing your relationship documents and your spouse’s current immigration status.

Our team confirms whether the application qualifies under student-based, worker-based, or post-graduation eligibility.

A complete work permit application is submitted with supporting evidence such as marriage certificates, proof of cohabitation, and permit validity.

Biometrics and medical exams are arranged if required by IRCC.

Once approved, you receive legal authorization to work in Canada for the duration of your spouse’s permit.

  • No job offer required
  • Freedom to change employers
  • Full-time or part-time work options
  • Canadian work experience for PR pathways
  • Supports family stability in Canada

This permit allows spouses to build careers while supporting their partner’s studies or employment.
